THE spirit of muhibbah was in the air when Indians, Ibans, other orang asli, Malays and Chinese came together recently to celebrate the festive season with a Christmas concert in Ipoh.

Organised by the Perak Government, the Konsert Muhibbah Hari Christmas 2008 attracted churchgoers from about 50 churches statewide on Saturday at Stadium Indera Mulia.

The event kicked off with Chinese hymns sung by more than 100 members from the Chinese Methodist churches of Ipoh and Taiping, followed by Buntong Tamil Methodist Church youths dancing energetically to a Tamil song depicting the birth of Jesus Christ.

Seven pupils from SJK(C) Min Tet, Ayer Tawar, and 17-year-old Ooi Choon How then brought the house down with their hair-raising stunts with the diabolo, a Chinese yo-yo.
Perak-born songstress Amy Mastura charming the crowd during the festive Perak state-level Christmas open house at Dataran Ipoh on Dec 27.

The audience roared their delight when the pupils juggled the yo-yos around their bodies, tossed them into the air and caught each others' yo-yos with nail-biting speed.

Lending another special touch to the evening were choir and dance performances by the orang asli of Gopeng Shalom Church who used both modern and native bamboo musical instruments.
